ABOUT

SJA 39.jpg

Smooth Jazz Alley is a contemporary jazz collective based in the San Francisco Bay Area, known for its infectious blend of Smooth Jazz, R&B, Soul, and Funk. The trio features keyboardist/producer Marco Montoya, drummer/producer Kevin Lewis, and saxophonist Otoe Mori, each bringing a unique musical voice and dynamic energy to the group’s signature sound.

Originally founded by Montoya and guitarist Stan Evans, Smooth Jazz Alley (SJA) took its next major step when Lewis joined as a full-time collaborator. Their musical synergy and deep-rooted camaraderie led to the release of their acclaimed sophomore album, Let’s Ride, which featured an impressive roster of guest artists including Chieli Minucci, Andy Snitzer, Roberto Vally, Eric Marienthal, Joel Del Rosario, Greg Vail, Lebron Dennis, Carlyle Barriteau, and Carmen Grillo.

In 2020, the group officially welcomed saxophonist Otoe Mori, marking a new creative chapter. Their first single together, “Deep Into You” (2022), spotlighted Mori’s debut with the group and featured guitar virtuoso Blake Aaron, resulting in a standout track full of soul, groove, and chemistry. The single served as the launchpad for their EP Here’s The Thing, which showcases collaborations with contemporary jazz heavyweights including Chris Camozzi, Nathan East, Jessy J, Marc Antoine, Blake Aaron, WaKaNa, and Jeff Ryan. â€‹The EP features production from both Marco Montoya and acclaimed producer Matt Godina, balancing slick, soulful grooves with rich instrumental artistry.

With momentum building and a growing presence in the contemporary jazz scene, Smooth Jazz Alley is currently back in the studio, working on their next album and continuing to push the boundaries of modern smooth jazz.  Their next single “Come On” is due out on July 18, 2025.
